Children have used skin coloured playing and loose parts to create their faces. They have also categorised animals into families. What Babies Learn From Self-feedingYou will be tempted to want to feed your child especially when you feel she/he is slow, you need to rush somewhere, you are late for work or she/he will waste the food.See what children are learning when you allow them to feed themselves.Number 3 will shock you because they don’t learn it through direct instructions. When children feed themselves, they:1. Refine the small muscles of the hand aka fine motor skills. Self-feeding or feeding oneself enhances the development of small muscles of the hands as children grasp utensils and coordinate hand movements. It also promotes eye-hand coordination.2. Emotional regulation Self-feeding gives children a sense of control, aiding in emotional regulation as they learn to manage frustration (when the food spills, when the spoon drops, when they can’t scoop a large quantity) and success during mealtime.3. Independence Growth is movement towards independence and independence is one of the basic needs of a child. Allowing your child to feed themselves fosters a sense of independence and self-sufficiency, contributing to their confidence.4. Cognitive development The process of feeding oneself involves decision-making, planning and problem-solving. Feeding your child will deny your child the opportunity to learn and master this first hand.5. Promotes and establish healthy eating habitAllowing children to make choices in their eating habits helps establish a foundation for a lifetime of healthy eating such as listening to their body, portion control and moderation.6. Refine the large muscles of the body aka gross motor skills Sitting at a table, reaching for food, and using utensils contribute to the development of gross motor skills in young children.Yes, all of these might seems slower. Yes, there’s clean up. But every spaghetti-smeared face is a step toward raising a resilient, independent, and confident child.#ParentingWins #RaisingIndependentChildren #MessyLearning #ChildDevelopment #HealthyHabits #growingupstrong ... VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, celebrated on May 8, 1945, marked the end of World War II in Europe after Germany's surrender. It was a public holiday where people celebrated with parties, singing, and dancing, . Babies, they designed hats using various materials engaging in gluing and sticking, fine motor skills, each child had a ration book for them to make personal marks in. Children's rations were slightly different to adults. Children were entitled to extra food that was considered essential for healthy growth, such as milk and orange juice. The National Milk Scheme provided one pint of milk for every child under 5. Fruit and vegetables were not rationed but were in short supply. We also danced to music from the 1940's learning about various genres of music.Pre school played a game from the war years, snakes and ladders, which was created by our Holly. During wartime, children often played traditional games like hopscotch, hide-and-seek, and marbles, using whatever materials they could find. They also engaged in games like war (card game), capture the flag, and even played "war" using toys or imagination.
