Following the theme of World Bee Day, the babies have continued with the topic of insects throughout the week with the book 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.We read the story which led us to the life cycle of a Butterfly. The children have been "Buzzzing" this week celebrating World Bee Day.They have been learning how bees work hard collecting pollen, transporting to the bee hive, producing honey.The children have engaged in a variety of arts and crafts, sensory play and food tasting around this fun learning topic.We must also say a massive thank you to the grandparents of one of our children who keeps Bees for sending us in a jar of their delicious honey Did you know..... Honeybees can recognize and remember human faces for up to two days. This ability allows them to differentiate between individuals, like their beekeeper and others. A honey bee can fly up to 15 miles per hour. A honey bee worker only makes an average of 1/12 of a teaspoon in her lifetime. One ounce of honey would fuel a bees flight around the world. A pound honey is made by 2 million flower visits.While managed honeybees are not currently endangered, many wild bee species are facing serious threats, including habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change.
